The Mittster: A Longtime Leader of the Mormon Church
It’s Time for Mitt to Explain his Mormon Beliefs
The revelation that the Mormon Church is holding macabre secret rituals baptizing Jews who died in the holocaust by the writer and Nobel Laureate Elie Wiesel – himself a Holocaust survivor – has put the spotlight squarely on the Church of Latter Day Saints and raised long overdue questions about what Mormons actually believe.
Wiesel’s call for Mitt Romney, a longtime leader of the Church, to speak out against this practice requires Romney to finally explain his religious beliefs! Wiesel is especially appalled by the fact that the Mormon Church has posthumously baptized Adolph Hitler and Joseph Stalin – two mass murdering ant-Semites! Whassup wit dat?
Adding insult to injury, attempts by Jewish leaders to get the Mormons to quit this practice has been met with repeated lies and duplicity. In a February 9th statement issued by Rabbi Abraham Cooper, Associate Dean of the Simon Wiesenthal Center, one of the largest international Jewish Human Rights organizations founded by the famous Nazi hunter, the dimensions of the problem was made crystal clear. After discovering that the Mormons were baptizing Simon Wiesenthal’s murdered parents Rabbi Abraham wrote:
“We are outraged that such insensitive actions continue in the Mormon Temples. Throughout his life, Simon Wiesenthal especially revered his beloved mother who was deported and murdered at Belzec death camp in 1942. Such actions make a mockery of the many meetings with the top leadership of the Mormon Church dating back to 1995 that focused on the unwanted and unwarranted posthumous baptisms of Jewish Victims of the Nazi Holocaust.”
The revelation of this bizarre practice, which resembles a form of soul snatching that I find far more offensive than the body snatching of grave robbers, causes me to break out in goose pimples just writing about it. All Americans should demand that the man who would be our president speak out on this issue.
Elie Wiesel, one of the most compelling voices against man’s inhumanity to man in our time, pulled no punches in his criticism of the Mormon Church and his demand that Mitt Speak out and denounce this sacrilege! But Mitt – artful dodger, shameless liar and unrepentant hypocrite – is referring all questions to the Mormon Church. Yet he is a top leader in the Church of Latter Day Saints!
The Great Tabernacle In Salt Lake
Barack Obama was forced to make a speech on his religious beliefs because of a sermon by his pastor that was both factual and based in the venerable tradition of the American Jeremiad, a literary or sermonic form with roots in sacred and secular American traditions. In his learned treatise, The Reverend Doctor Wright and President Obama, Professor Bernard Bell tells us:
“…the Rev. Dr. Jeremiah has scriptural and secular authority for his prophetic mission of warning the nation of divine judgment for transgressing our personal and national covenant with God and man. Like…Benjamin Banneker, Richard Allen, Frederick Douglass, Harriet Tubman, Booker T. Washington, W. E. B. Du Bois, Malcolm X, Martin Luther King, and Jesse Jackson, the Rev. Dr. Jeremiah is respected by many black Americans, especially Baptists and Methodists, as an African American prophetic preacher in the tradition of Jeremiah. Can I get a witness?”
Indeed you can doctor! And I heartily join that shrewd and compassionate witness to the human condition, Elie Wiesel, in demanding that Mitt Romney call for the Mormons to quit their perfidious practice of snatching the souls of murdered Jews…then come before the nation and explain his religious beliefs like President Obama did. Especially since it is now apparent that the southern Baptist leader who said Mormonism wasn’t true Christianity, and was roundly denounced for it, has a pretty good point. I will examine Mormon beliefs on gender and race in future commentaries.
